Changelog – WCAG 2

In WCAG 2 Overview: Updated “EN 301 549 currently uses WCAG 2.1. We expect the next version of EN 301 549 to use the latest version of WCAG 2.2.” to “The 2026 version of EN 301 549 uses WCAG 2.2.”.

In WCAG 2 Overview: In the Introduction section, added paragraph at the end clarifying applicability and pointing to WCAG2ICT.

In WCAG 2 Overview: Updated the WCAG 2.0, 2.1, 2.2 section to clarify that the standard at a dated URL does not change and how WCAG 2 documents support backward compatibility.
In WCAG 2 Documents:
- Updated the WCAG 2 standard section to clarify that the supporting materials are not normative
- Renamed the “Old Diagram” section into “WCAG 2 documents diagram” and explained that the diagram is referenced in WCAG 2.0.
In WCAG 2 FAQ:
- Changed the structure of the FAQ
- Added:

  - “Where should I start?” into Where should I start learning about WCAG 2?
  - “What about WCAG 3.0? What about “Silver”?” into What about WCAG 3? and updated the answer
  - “How Can I Get Updates?” into How can I get notified of updates? and updated the answer
  - Renamed “Can I meet WCAG 2 with JavaScript and other technologies?” into Do the techniques ensure accessibility in different technologies?

- Removed guidance about linking to the latest or specific versions of WCAG 2.2 under What was updated in WCAG 2.2 in December 2024?
- Removed question “Does W3C plan to send WCAG 2.1 or WCAG 2.2 to ISO for endorsement?”

In WCAG 2 Overview:
- Changed the WCAG 2 is ISO/IEC 40500 section with new heading and text
- Changed “most recent” to “latest” in the WCAG 2.0, 2.1, 2.2 section: “W3C encourages you to use the latest version of WCAG.”
In WCAG 2 FAQ: deleted question “Is ISO/IEC 40500 the same as WCAG 2.0?”
